Guyana (Japanese: ギアナ Guiana) is a location in South America in the Pokémon world. It is known to be the habitat of Mew. It is based on the real-world location.
In the games
Guyana is the location of the jungle where, according to the Pokémon Mansion journals, Mew was discovered. Faraway Island may be part of Guyana.
Mew's Pokédex entries from Pokémon Stadium and FireRed mention that it lives in South America, where the real-world Guianas are located.
In animation

Guyana is shown, though not named, in some movies and specials depicting Mew and the origins of Mewtwo.
At the beginning of The Uncut Story of Mewtwo's Origin (a short included at the start of the Japanese extended version of Mewtwo Strikes Back), a Team Rocket expedition team led by Dr. Fuji searched a jungle in Guyana for Mew. The expedition found a fossil of Mew's eyelash, from which they cloned Mewtwo. The first two minutes of this short, set in Guyana, were added to the beginning of the movie in the international extended version.
In Mewtwo Strikes Back, scenes featuring Mew before it arrives on New Island also appear to be set in Guyana. Mewtwo's visions of Mew while in Dr. Fuji's cloning lab feature images of the Guyanese jungle.
The film's remake, Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution begins with Dr. Fuji leading an expedition in the jungle in Guyana to find evidence of Mew, whom they believed to be extinct. Meanwhile, Mew observed them from the jungle while frolicking with other Guyanese Pokémon. From ruins in the jungle that featured a wall carving of Mew, Dr. Fuji's team excavated a fossil from Mew's body—from which they later cloned Mewtwo.

In other media
In the radio drama The Birth of Mewtwo, Guyana is not mentioned, but South America is mentioned in relation to Team Rocket's long search for Mew, which leads to a discovery of a fossil of Mew's eyebrow.
In Google Maps: Pokémon Challenge, Mew's most common location was in Guyana.
Real-world counterpart
While the English translation spells the location as 'Guyana,' the Japanese text actually spells 'Guiana,' which could refer to any of the surviving three countries in South America that were once named Guiana (Suriname or Dutch Guiana; Guyana or British Guiana, and French Guiana). The country commonly referred to as Guyana by English-speakers is actually spelled ガイアナ Gaiana in Japanese. French Guiana was the subject of a Japan-funded, French-engineered genetics expedition (named the Heartopia and shown in the 1990 film Flying Raft at the Osaka Expo '90) as well as a preventative archaeology expedition, both taking place in 1989 near the island that is currently the Petit Saut Dam. It is worth noting that in French, French Guiana is simply called Guyane - Guyana.
