Tim and Detective Pikachu first encounter Jessica with Rachel at the Hi-Hat Café while investigating the theft of the Aurora Drop. She informs them that she works at a pizzeria at Bamboo Borough and invites them over if they were ever within the area.
Later, while detained at the Ryme City Police Station, Pikachu discovers a photo in Will Butler's office showing Jessica as Unitas's next potential target. Worried, Tim, Rachel and Pikachu head to Bamboo Borough to check in on Jessica. When they arrive, they join Jessica on a trip into the Bamboo Forest to acquire charcoal for the pizzeria. However, while in the forest, Rachel and Jessica are attacked by a member of Unitas controlling a Golem. Although Tim and Pikachu successfully defeat the Golem and free it from the Control Cube, the mysterious man escapes with Jessica's thumbdrive containing research from Rachel's mother, Emma. As her research assistant at the time, Jessica had been given this for safe-keeping out of fear it could be used to harm people and Pokémon. The research suggests a way that it would be possible for a person and Pokémon's consciousness to be combined.
