(Japanese: ラッキーなサファリでおにごっこ!? Playing Tag on a Lucky Safari!?) is the sixth episode of the second season of POKÉTOON and fourteenth overall. It was first released in Japan on the official Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel (with English subtitles) on October 23, 2024.
Blurb
Meg ends up spending her summer vacation in the lush Safari Zone, where many Pokémon live.
There she meets a "Lucky with a Hat", a Pokémon that no one has been able to catch for years.
It seems that Meg's uncle has an interest in the mysterious Lucky...
Meg is curious about the relationship between Lucky and her uncle, so she decides to venture into the Safari Zone alone!
Plot
A young girl, Meg, arrives at in a Safari Zone, and admires all the wild Pokémon there. She comes across a notice board, and notices a wanted posted of a Chansey wearing a fedora hat. She remembers she's supposed to heading to her uncle, the Safari Zone warden's place. Suddenly, she starts sneezing, due to a passing Jumpluff's pollen. A huge Chansey appears, and due to its hat, Meg recognizes it as the one on the poster. The warden appears along with a Maschiff, having chased the Chansey, and tries to catch it, but fails, and the Chansey runs away. Meg thanks the warden, her uncle Bozly, for letting her stay with him. She asks him about the Chansey with the hat, but Bozly just mentions that it's a menace to the Safari Zone.
Later, Meg asks her uncle to let her accompany him on his rounds of the area, but he declines stating that it's too dangerous. After Bozly leaves, she finds a photo on his desk of her mother when she was young, along with her brother Bozly, their father, the previous warden, and the large Chansey. Angry that her uncle left her alone, she decides to go explore by herself, but is stopped by various fenced-off areas. Near a lake, she finds a paralyzed Dratini, and check in her bag to see if she has any Potions. The Chansey with a hat arrives and heals the Dratini with Heal Bell. Various trainers try to catch the Chansey with Safari Balls, but it escapes. After the trainers leave, Meg finds the hat on the ground, and looking inside, she sees a tiny Chansey inside, which grows in size and then vanishes. Meg wonders if that was one of Chansey's moves.
At night, Meg tells her uncle about the Dratini she encountered, and how Chansey helped it. Bozly thinks it was just a coincidence that Chansey was there, but Meg thinks there's more to it. She asks why Bozly is angry at the Chansey, but he replies that a kid like her wouldn't understand. Meg then angrily calls Bozly childish as well, and he relents and tells her about the Chansey. The Chansey was Bozly's father's—Meg's grandfather's—partner Pokémon, and after Bozly took over the warden duties, he received the old hat from his father but the Chansey stole it and ran away. As Meg lays around thinking about the Chansey, she notices a poisoned Fletchling and the Chansey with a hat again arrives to heal it back up. As Meg thanks the Chansey, it disappears. When Bozly gets back from his rounds in the rain, he notices the Chansey and asks why it still won't accept him as the warden, after all he has done to make the Safari Zone better. Bozly tries to catch it but slips in some mud, and the Chansey breaks his fall. Meg sees them and asks if they've made up, but Bozly angrily states that's not possible.
The next day, Bozly gets a notification on his laptop of some Rhyhorn being worked up, and states he'll have to check it out. However, he was supposed to work on sealing some caverns today, to which Meg tells him he's been closing off too many areas. Bozly replies that it's to keep Trainers from wandering into unsafe areas. When Meg wonders why the Rhyhorn are worked up, Bozly theorizes it might be due to the nearby Hoppip's Rage Powder. Just the mention of Hoppip makes Meg start sneezing again, revealing that it's caused by powder moves. When Bozly hears about the places where Meg was sneezing, he starts to realize something, and invites Meg to go check something out with him.
After they arrive at a large tree in the forest, Bozly gives Meg a scarf to keep her from sneezing due to the powder moves. The large tree is filled with a lot of Hoppip, Jumpluff, and Skiploom on its branches, and Bozly theorizes that blocking off some caves and tunnels changed the wind flow due to which the Pokémon couldn't ride the wind and were stuck here. Poor ventilation led to their powders accumulating, which affected the other Pokémon. Bozly's Maschiff gets hit with Stun Spore, but Chansey arrives and heals it.
Meg and Bozly open up one of the boarded-up caverns, and the wind flowing again helps the Hoppip and other Pokémon float in the wind. Meg helps her uncle realize that both Bozly and Chansey have been helping the Safari Zone together, with the Chansey having stolen his hat so he would follow it. Bozly apologizes to the Chansey and asks it to keep protecting the Safari Zone. The Chansey jumps into the air and disappears, and its hat floats down, which Bozly reclaims.
After a few days, the Chansey's wanted poster has been removed from the notice board. Meg's mother, who has come to pick her up, remarks on how tanned Meg is, and they both leave after bidding Bozly farewell. In the car, Meg opens the bag and sees Chansey's face. While Meg is surprised, the Chansey starts to expand and fills up the space in the car.
