The Top Cut was a website dedicated to promoting the growth of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. For a little under four years it carried out multiple activities related to the TCG, including deck analysis, deck building tutorials, commentary on multiple official and unofficial TCG Events and releases and hosting events and giveaways.
The website itself was last updated on the 30th of March 2015, but its website remained active until some point between late 2018 and early 2019.
Website
The Top Cut was the name of a group of TCG players, made out of Drew Holton , Josue "Crimz" Rojano, Kyle Sucevich and Michael Pramawat, 4 top players threw out the middle 2000s to the early 2010s. Together they decided to create an LLC with an official site, Youtube channel and Twitch Channel to organize tournaments and offer a variety of resources for TCG players, including deck building advice, forums, podcasts with commentary of the last Set releases and official tournaments.
Sections
With over 1000 Youtube Videos and Articles on their main Website, the Azure Heights staff developed a few semi-regular sections, usually looking for a weekly release. Among these sections we have:
- Bad Deck Monday:
A host creates a "bad deck" to show players how certain mechanics or cards might look great in theory but in actual play might not be as effective.
- Deck Wizard Wednesday:
Using the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online, one host chooses two cards, letting the Deck Wizard create a deck while the second hosts criticize, changes and plays a few games using the generated set.
- Fake Archetype Friday:
Kyle Sucevich would take a popular archetype and replace the Pokémon with "worse" versions.
- Expanded Friday:
Analysis of classic decks in the Black & White On format.
- Building on a Budget:
A look at inexpensive competitive decks that are good starting points for new players, with estimated cost bellow 100$.
- Top 10 Lists:
Lists judging Pokémon cards for their competitive prowess or aesthetic achievements.
Closure
In 2015, Kyle Sucevich, founder and main contributor to the site, was offered a position at The Pokémon Company as a Research and Development Associate and Game Designer for the TCG. Sucevich's decision to take the offer lead to the closure of the site.
