Gladag is the name of a village in the District of Rogojampi, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia.

The name of this village is a change in form from Gletakan, which means to lie down/repose. The name was given by Sulung Agung while resting in this area.[1]

Gladag is known to have a number of influential figures who have made significant contributions in various fields. Here are some of them:

Sumitro Hadi

Sumitro Hadi is a dance maestro from Gladag Village who has created more than 103 dance and song works between 1968 and 2015. One of his most famous works is the Jejer Gandrung Dance, which has become an icon of Banyuwangi performing arts. In addition to being a choreographer, Sumitro is also known as a music arranger and arranger of famous gending. He founded the Jingga Putih Studio in Gladag, which plays an important role in training and developing the artistic talents of the local young generation. Sumitro Hadi passed away on December 26, 2020 due to COVID-19.

Eyang Buyut Surongganti

Eyang Buyut Surongganti is a charismatic figure who is respected in Banyuwangi, especially in Lateng Hamlet, Desa Gladag. He is known as a powerful figure who was a fugitive from the Dutch East Indies colonialists because of his role in organizing the Blambangan people's resistance. The tomb of Eyang Buyut Surongganti is located in the Lateng Hamlet Public Cemetery RT01/RW03 Desa Gladag, flanked by two large frangipani trees, and close to the tomb of his wife, Eyang Buyut Ayu. Until now, his tomb is often visited by people from various regions.

A. Chaidir Sidqi

A. Chaidir Sidqi is the Head of Gladag Village who is active in various community empowerment programs. One of the initiatives he led was the socialization of the prevention of early marriage in collaboration with the Rogojampi KUA. This program aims to increase public awareness of the importance of education and family welfare, as well as reduce the divorce rate in the village.

The existence of these figures shows that Gladag Village has a rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as leadership that cares about the progress and welfare of its people.
