Early life
Soeria was born on 13 March 1981 in Jakarta, Indonesia.[1] Her father is an artist.[2] Soeria stated that she wanted to study fashion design, but was hindered by her father's bankruptcy due to the 1997 Asian financial crisis.[2][3] Although she could not continue her fashion education, she had another ability, writing.[2][3] Seeing her ability, Soeria decided to attend National University, where she majored in English literature.[2][3]
Personal life
Soeria married a pilot in 2013.[2]
Career
Soeria started her career as a journalist at Nova in 2009.[2][3] She managed the fashion desk and became known for her fashion sense.[2][3] Soeria explored the fashion world and established relationships with many designers.[2][3] In 2013, she moved to Turkey, and started her career as a fashion consultant in modest industry.[2][3]
Soeria later became a co-founder of Alahijab, a platform for modest fashion in Turkey, founded in 2006 as a collaboration with Ozlem Sahin to develop her business.[2][1][3] Her relationship with designers in the modest industry expanded from Africa to the United States.[2][3] She founded Think of Fashion along with Sahin.[2][1][3] The two created Modest Fashion Week, a fashion event with the theme of traveling events.[2][1][3] The fashion show was first held in Istanbul in 2016 and became a highlight of fashion media with Mercedes-Benz as the sponsor.[2][3]
Modest Fashion Week is held in Turkey, London, Dubai, Jakarta, and Amsterdam.[2][1][3]
She also founded Markamarie, a modest fashion aggregator in Southeast Asia with offices in Indonesia and Malaysia, and involved in the creation of the Council of Modest Fashion, Modest Fashion Founders Fund (in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy), Asian Bloggers Academy (with Markamarie Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi MARA), and a humanitarian project called Benang Project (supported by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).[1]
Soeria has produced big names in modest fashion, such as Noor Tagouri.[1] She wrote a book during the COVID-19 pandemic entitled Random Thoughts of Franka (2020), which she completed in 2 weeks.[1] Soeria said that writing the book made her feel like she was doing therapy and make peace with her past. She admitted that she used to be a nerd and loved writing and books, and a passion buried by fashion resurfaced.[1]
