The regions are subdivided into a total of 39 sectors (singular: setor , plural: setores ); which are further subdivided into smaller groups called sections (singular: secção , plural: secções ); which are further subdivided into populated places (i.e.: towns, villages, localities, settlements, communities, etc.).
