Akala Passion (Japanese: アーカラ島の情熱 Akala Island Passion) was a Trainer Files event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Kiawe & Arcanine and Mallow & Shiinotic.

During this event, players could earn event vouchers from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. Obtaining 3,000 vouchers would unlock the story area Friend Trio, Good Ingredients. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Kiawe & Arcanine or Mallow & Shiinotic to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Lana & Araquanid to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Alola sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

First run

The event first ran from July 21 to August 4, 2023. The "Kiawe Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Kiawe & Arcanine for the duration of the event, and the "Mallow Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Mallow & Shiinotic starting on July 23, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event.

In this run, the type of vouchers that players could earn was Event Voucher Z.

Second run

The event reran from April 19 to May 7, 2025. The "Double Feature Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Kiawe & Arcanine and Mallow & Shiinotic for the duration of the event.

In this run, the type of vouchers that players could earn was Event Voucher A. Everything else was the same as the previous run.

Plot

Kiawe, Lana, and Mallow are trying Cilan, Chili, and Cress's specialty tea. It's delicious, and the triplets attribute this to their teamwork with Grass, Fire, and Water. This gives Mallow the idea to try making a dish with Kiawe and Lana, since they're also specialists of those three types. She doesn't want to make the same Mallow Special that they use for the trials, though, so they'll have to come up with a new recipe. Cilan asks to try their dish when it's done.

After a while, the two trios meet back up to try the dish. However, Kiawe, Mallow, and Lana insist that even though it's finished, they can't eat it yet; they have to wait a little longer, with Kiawe's Arcanine keeping it warm while they wait. When night falls, the dish suddenly starts glowing, and Mallow explains that's due to the effect of her Shiinotic's spores. Cilan has heard that Shiinotic's spores glow in the dark to send its prey to sleep, and Cress worries it's not safe to eat. Mallow assures him it's fine, and the triplets try the dish. The taste is a bit peculiar, and it starts to make them sleepy, but suddenly it becomes unbearably spicy, so Lana's Araquanid cools them down. Mallow asks them what they thought of the dish, which has been dubbed the "Akala Trio Special", and they say that it was a unique dining experience that couldn't have been accomplished by anyone else.
