Honing One's Love (Japanese: 研鑽を重ねし愛情 Honing One's Love) was a Neo Champions event in Pokémon Masters EX. It was focused on the sync pairs Geeta & Glimmora and Silver (Champion) & Tyranitar.

First run

The event first ran from February 28 to March 16, 2024. The "Geeta Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Geeta & Glimmora from the beginning of the event to April 8, 2024, and the "Silver Master Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Silver (Champion) & Tyranitar from March 1 to April 8, 2024.

In this run, players could earn Event Vouchers N from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Geeta & Glimmora or Silver (Champion) & Tyranitar to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Lance & Dragonite, Eusine & Suicune, or Morty & Drifblim to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Paldea or Johto sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

This run featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas with teams using various theme skills, earning medals and other rewards.

Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. The title screen artwork depicted Geeta & Glimmora and Silver (Champion) & Tyranitar, and the background music was Battle! (Johto Neo Champion) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Geeta or Silver saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen, chosen at random each time the title screen was loaded.

Second run

The event reran from July 13 to 28, 2025 as part of the Story Replay Silver's Path event. This run only contained the story areas; the vouchers and battle areas did not return. In addition, no missions were available, and no medals could be earned.

Plot

Lear, Rachel and Sawyer have finished showing Geeta around Pasio when they hear the distant cry of a Tyranitar. Intrigued, Geeta excuses herself in search of said Tyranitar and finds it under the ownership of Silver, training against his Ho-oh.

Geeta introduces herself as the Chairwoman of the Paldean League as well as its Top Champion, explaining that, as anyone in Paldea can acquire the rank of Champion by passing the Champion Assessment, the duty to pass judgment among aspiring Champions is thus her responsibility. She will also be a judge in the upcoming round of the Neo Champion Stadium, which she comments is a similar assessment challenge that allows young talent to flourish, though she is surprised when Silver expresses disinterest in participating. She remarks that he has a similar shine to other up-and-coming Trainers she'd met before, though she does clarify that the choice to become a Neo Champion is entirely up to him and that it won't be easy to pass her criteria regardless. Silver takes that confidence as a challenge to knock her down a peg, telling her to remember him as the one who will become the world's greatest Trainer.

At the stadium, Lear introduces Geeta, who announces that the rules for this tournament will be for any sync pair to defeat a Champion of their choosing, herself included, in a one-on-one battle. Lance recognises that it's not just the challengers who are being judged by her criteria of 'Honed Talent', but the Champions themselves as well to provide a battle that pushes them to their limits. This broadcasted announcement is seen by Silver, just as Morty and Eusine pass by. Silver affirms to them that he will settle for nothing else but beating the Champion of the Indigo Plateau, specifically with the Shiny Tyranitar raised from the Egg that Eusine gave to him some time back to blindside Lance with unfamiliar tactics.

On the day of the tournament, Geeta observes Silver approach Lance, declaring that today will be the day he surpasses him. Lance is surprised by Silver's choice in Tyranitar, and hearing Silver's gloating words makes him assume that Silver has fallen back on old obsessions about winning for this fight. As the battle begins, he privately admits that using new tactics isn't a bad idea, but it will take more than that for Silver to defeat him and his Dragonite, something Geeta also picks up on. Lance begins to berate Silver for using some new powerful Pokémon rather than one of his partners that he might have formed a deep bond with on his journey to battle him now, but Silver angrily interrupts him, declaring that beating Lance and becoming the world's strongest is the dream shared by him and all his Pokémon, represented in this arena by Tyranitar, and restates that today will be the day that he tears down the metaphorical wall Lance represents, cumulating in Silver's Tyranitar Mega Evolving in furious agreement.

Silver chides his Tyranitar for choosing now to finally get serious, while Lance apologises for his own mistaken assumptions, declaring that there is nothing else to do but for them to battle to determine who is stronger. As the battle starts anew, Silver's mind flashes back to him apologising to his other Pokémon that he can't bring all of them along, but him and Tyranitar will be fighting for them and their dream. In the present, Dragonite falls after a final clash, and Silver finally cracks a smile in achieving his first win against Lance. Elsewhere, Morty and Eusine are happy to see Silver take another step forwards his dream.

As the tournament comes to a close, Silver poses on the arena's stage with Tyranitar in his new Neo Champion outfit with Lance and Geeta's blessings. Silver isn't about to let it end, however, and sets his sights on Geeta to satisfy Tyranitar's battle itch, reminding her of his vow to knock her down a peg. Much to Lance's shock, Geeta accepts his challenge and immediately sends out her Glimmora for an all-out battle.

Geeta	Oh, I'm sorry. I haven't introduced myself, have I? I am Geeta, chairwoman of the Paldea region's Pokémon League. I am also the Top Champion, the highest-ranking of all Champion Rank Trainers.
Silver	What's that supposed to mean?
Geeta	In the Paldea region, we have more than one Champion. Anyone who passes the Champion Assessment can earn the title of Champion. But as for the ultimate judgment of who among the aspiring Champions has what it takes... That duty falls to me, the Top Champion.
Silver	Oh?
Geeta	I will also be the judge for the next round of the upcoming Neo Champion Stadium. I was surprised to learn of an assessment challenge so much like the one we hold in Paldea. It allows young, up-and-coming talent to compete with each other... and in doing so, lead one another to greater heights. This system for finding Neo Champions is a marvelous thing, really.
Silver	Hmph. That has nothing to do with me.
Geeta	Oh, you don't want to participate? That's a shame.

Geeta	Back in Paldea, I met Trainers with rare talent, just like you. You have within you a shine that's similar to what I saw in those young and talented Trainers. I think you'd do quite well, honestly.
Silver	So basically...you want to make me a Neo Champion?
Geeta	Well...that, of course, depends on you. I am utterly incapable of holding back when it comes to Pokémon battles. It won't be easy to meet my judging criteria.
Silver	Well, aren't you confident. I don't care about titles like "Neo Champion"... But I'm starting to think I wouldn't mind taking a big shot like you down a notch or two.
Geeta	Oh, really? You're very welcome to try. May I ask your name?
Silver	... ... ... I'm the guy who's going to be the world's greatest Pokémon Trainer.

Lear	I am hereby informing you all of the next Neo Champion Stadium! This time, a new judge will be joining us... Geeta, the Top Champion of Paldea!
Geeta	It's a pleasure to meet you, everyone. I'm Geeta. I spend my time at the Paldea Pokémon League seeking out new talent... And I am very grateful for this opportunity to do so here on Pasio, as well. Now, as you all may already know, the Neo Champion Stadium is a special competition... held to decide who on Pasio can become an example for everyone to measure up against. But no matter how blessed you are with talent, it won't shine beautifully unless it is polished... much like a gemstone. With that in mind, allow me explain the judging criteria for the next Neo Champion Stadium! I am looking for "honed talent!"

Defeat the Caped Dragon Master

Geeta	The rules of this Neo Champion Stadium are quite simple, really... All you have to do is defeat a Champion of your choice in a one-on-one battle! This is a prime opportunity to face off against the Champions who reign over each Pokémon League and battle them with everything you've got! I hope everyone can show off the results of their day-to-day efforts to hone their skills! Of course, you are more than welcome to choose me as your opponent. Here on Pasio, our future Champions will blossom one after another. I look forward to that from the bottom of my heart.
Lance	If we want battles that'll fully display the skills of our challengers... that will depend on how much we, the Champions, can draw those skills out. So it's not just the quality of the challengers that's being tested here, is it?
Geeta	A Champion is someone who guides challengers with kindness. Personally, I don't think there should be a single shred of doubt in the duty or strength of a Champion.
Lance	I see... You're quite strict.
(Cut to outside, Silver is watching a screen)
???	Hey, Silver!
(Eusine and Morty appear)
Morty	You were really focused on the screens just now... Are you going to give it a go?
Silver	Yeah, I am.
Eusine	I see! Then you'll be taking another step towards achieving your dream!
Morty	But it's a pretty tall order, asking you to beat a Champion... It sounds like you can choose your opponent... Who were you thinking of—?
Silver	That's a given. The person I need to beat is the Champion of the Indigo Plateau...
(Flashback to Silver being defeated by Lance)
Silver	Lance! And, well... There may be another person I've got in mind... I already know which Pokémon I want to battle with.
(Silver sends out his Tyranitar)
Silver	It'll be this guy. Don't tell me you forgot?
Eusine	Wait... That Tyranitar hatched from the Egg I gave you back then?
(Flashback to Eusine giving Silver the Pokémon Egg)
Eusine	I see! Wow, it really grew!
Morty	Why are you battling with Tyranitar instead of one of the Pokémon you usually battle with?
Silver	... ... ... Because I'll have the advantage if I use tactics I haven't used before on Lance. I'll beat him this time, for sure!
Eusine	Do show us—and all of Pasio—you and Tyranitar fighting gallantly together!
Morty	Yeah, we'll be watching you until the end.
Eusine	We've got high hopes for you.
Silver	Hmph. Whatever. You'll regret giving me that Pokémon Egg... after you see me and Tyranitar shake things up in the tournament!
